Enterprise/sustainability
Since December 2009, Zonneveld ingenieurs has been housed in Central Post, directly adjacent to Rotterdam Central Station, the heart of public transportation. The Central Post building has been labeled the most sustainable monument in The Netherlands and has a GreenCalc score label A.
Zonneveld ingenieurs has deliberately chosen this building and this location to make a meaningful contribution to the care for the environment. The location ensures an excelent accessibility with public transportation. Many of our projects are situated in the center of large Dutch cities. By chosing this location for our office, the average car kilometers for projects and commuter traffic have been reduced by approx. 50%.
Sun oriented design of accommodation of Zonneveld ingenieurs
Modern offices have to be designed especially to prevent a excessive need for cooling. The Central Post building has a second-skin facade at the north and south facade. Zonneveld ingenieurs has created an atrium at the south facade with a height of 2 storeys.
Contrary to many smaller spaces immediately behind the facade with a large need for cooling, the heated air in this atrium is redirected through the plenum and directly exchanged in the wko-system. This reduces the need for cooling and therefore the energy-use.
