Picasso Lyceum, Zoetermeer

The Stedelijk College in Zoetermeer is currently spread out over several buildings. The new building of the Picasso Lyceum accommodates approx. thousand pupils, divided over the school types VMBO, HAVO and VWO. The school has been divided into "theme corners", for which "merging" of the various school types has been chosen deliberately, while maintaining their own identity.
An "indoor Street", perpendicular to the canal, provides access to the different domains of all school types and connects the aula at the canal with an outdoor square on the first floor.
Structually, an open, transparent and flexible (voids) building has been designed. The skelleton has been designed for Bubbledeckvloeren with prefabricated facade elements. Optimum flexibility (taking into account future developments in education) has been achieved by creating large spans and disconnecting the bearing structure with the architectural features. This enables growth in education and educational forms.
The building also houses laboratories, a library, a gym and a computer room.
The school also has a function outside school hours. The Auditorium of the school can be used as fully fledged theatre.
